“We have heard your feedback and after careful examination, have determined that a small percentage of Surface Pro 4 devices are exhibiting a screen flicker that cannot be addressed with a firmware or driver update,” Redmond revealed Friday. “To support customers affected by this issue, we will replace eligible Surface Pro 4 devices for up to three years from the date of purchase, free of charge.”

Before you contact Microsoft for a replacement, be sure to install all the latest Surface and Windows updates on your 2-in-1 device. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support. From there, an agent will determine whether your Surface is eligible for a replacement. If it is, you’ll need to back up your data and prepare your device for service, then send it back to Microsoft. Once the company receives your old device, it will ship you a new one; Microsoft said this should take about 5 to 8 business days.

“Microsoft provides replacement devices which are refurbished to the defined quality standards,” the company said.

If you already paid an out-of-warranty fee to have your Surface Pro 4 screen repaired, Microsoft will give you a refund. For more information about the replacement program, head here.

The Surface Pro 4 earned an “excellent” rating in PCMag’s 2015 review and our sought-after Editors’ Choice Award. “Upgrades like a bigger, better display, an improved Type Cover and Surface Pen, and strong battery life in our tests make the Surface Pro 4 our Editors’ Choice for high-end slate tablets,” we wrote.
