Apple is working on battery pack accessory that will wirelessly connect to an iPhone 12 using the company’s MagSafe system, according to a report from Bloomberg on Friday.

Apple introduce MagSafe charging and accessories as part of its iPhone 12 lineup last October. It’s reminiscent of the MagSafe feature that used to be on all MacBooks, where the power cord auto-attached and easily popped off. The battery pack, which has reportedly been in development for at least a year, would join a slew of magnetic MagSafe accessories that snap onto the back of the iPhone 12, such as cases, chargers, mounts and a wallet.

The MagSafe battery pack would reportedly only provide additional charge, and not include a full protective case like previous iPhone battery add-ons. Some prototypes of the accessory have had a white rubber exterior, according to Bloomberg.

Development of the battery pack has been slowed due to software issues and other problems, according to Bloomberg, and there’s a chance the accessory could face delays or be scrapped all together.

Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
