Over the years, memorabilia from Apple’s early days has fetched big money at auction, like the Apple-1 that sold for $815,000 in 2016. Now, a new piece of tech history is on the auction block: a job application filled out and signed by an 18 year-old Steve Jobs in 1973.
According to RR Auction, the application from Apple’s late co-founder could sell for around $50,000. On the one page, 8.5 x 11-inch document, Jobs filled out his name: “Steven jobs,” address: “reed college,” phone: “none,” and major: “english lit,” but left the “past employment” section completely blank.
As for whether he had a driver’s license, Jobs wrote “yes,” but noted that it’s “possible, but not probable” that he would have access to transportation.
On the application, Jobs indicated he was skilled at computers and calculators, including “design, tech.” Under “special abilities,” he wrote: “electronics tech or design engineer. digital.—from Bay near Hewitt-Packard [sic].”
RR Auction noted that the application is “in very good condition, with intersecting folds, overall creasing, light staining, and some old clear tape to the top edge.” If you’re interested in acquiring this item, you still have some time to get your funds in order: bidding runs from March 8 through March 15.
“This remarkable employment questionnaire reveals Jobs’s early aspiration to work in the fledgling tech industry, which he would soon revolutionize forever,” RR Auction wrote.
Meanwhile, RR Auction has a few other items up for grabs that Apple fans might be interested in, including a 2008 newspaper clipping and 2001 Mac OS X technical manual, both signed by Jobs.
